A little something different today on Volts: an interview with my favorite singer-songwriter, Cory Branan. His first album came out 20 years ago and his music has been interwoven into my life ever since. Now he's got a new album out, When I Go I Ghost. We talked about life on the road, songwriting, and what comes next.
I have been stealing from you Sir for years. Just subscribed. Thanks for the reminder. Also if your podcast does one of these episodes every so often I am all for it! Jason Isbell next?
What a lovely episode and introduction to the genius of Cory Branan! Thanks for this. I’d been really looking forward to listening, as part of the (very very?) small minority of your subscribers who are also touring songwriters. :) His comment that he writes about ten verses for every one that makes it into a song - that if you care about lyrics and storytelling, it’s worth generating lots of drafts - has been a great antidote to writer’s block this week.

Great episode, thanks! From the excerpts there's a bit of a Son Volt vibe going on, too. Very cool.
Also the shout-out to William Stafford was unexpected, but delightful!

Oh Vienna, I'm so glad you found it!
The Grateful Dead inspires me, especially the songs Truckin' and Ship of Fools.
While I have not listened to this yet, I very much support it. Thanks David.
